In 2004, the Syndicate Trust's partner building, the marble-clad Century Building, was consigned to the landfill after a fierce preservation battle. The demolition exposed a side of the Syndicate that had never seen daylight, and wasn't meant to. The building would sit empty for another year before renovation work began.
