The Slow Death of 1900 Montgomery Street

1920-1922 Montgomery Street
A four-family twin house, built in 1881 with an unfinished partial basement. The cornice flairs past the end of the facades to give it a more formal and stylized air than its neighbors.

It was last viably occupied in 1998; by 2003 it vacant and was owned by the LRA. The house's brickwork was in poor condition, in need of repairs at the parapet walls. The front stoops were also falling apart.

Despite this, it was certainly not too far gone for restoration, and I was very surprised to find it had been demolished. It came down in October 2006.
