This section of the city is one of the most devastated. Vast tracts of land completely empty; just south of Cass Avenue the street grid itself no longer exists -- cleared for the long-since demolished Pruitt-Igoe housing projects.

But where the buildings do survive, very often they're quite nice. St. Louis Avenue is lined with numerous fine houses, and the surviving vernacular houses have a uniform brick construction and appearance.
