St. Louis State Hospital
The work was completed September, 2001. The building now stands in splendid isolation on its hilltop site; the remaining service buildings are all very low (one story); most are located in the back. It is brilliantly illuminated at night.
For a close-up look, park in the YMCA parking lot and walk over. It's spectacular!
(Don't bother trying to go through the main gate. The security guys don't much like photographers, and as the building is a state-owned care facility, casual visitors aren't allowed. A shame, too, since the guard shack sits directly in line with the main building's centerline -- meaning that, after all this time, you still can't get a centered photograph of the building's front elevation.)
