Built St. Louis: The North Side
The Slow Death of a City Block: 1900 Montgomery Street

The buldging wall portends doom.

The shattered, littered, watered interior. Renovation would have required a complete gut rehab.

Three wythes of brick and a stone sill. They don't build 'em like this anymore.

1902 Montgomery Street
A twin -- two houses in one. The doors have lost their stoops.

1902 already had a visible bulge when I first photographed it; by 2004, it had become alarmingly prominent. The house was demolished in 2005, along with the ruins of neighboring 1906.
