Central Industrial Corridor
A long stretch of vacant land and several inaccessible sites separates the third industrial site, this factory at Converse and 27th Streets. Unlike the previous two, it appears to be active.

Converse Avenue itself is set up in the manner of a grand boulevard, with a green center island. The houses lining it are modest workers' cottages, however. A series of more substantial brick two-level houses are largely abandoned.

The most compelling of all the industrial sites is just northeast of here, along Missouri Avenue; unfortunately I have yet to photograph it. It appears to be a locomotive scrapping/salvage yard, operated by Metro East Industries, Inc. (Railcar & Locomotive Division - 3601 Walnut Street, Alorton, IL 62205). The water towers in the distance are part of it. Next time, next time....
