Built St. Louis > > The North Side > > The Ville
Martin Luther King Boulevard is a fairly decrepit and fragmented streetscape. Surviving older buildings such as these stand out all the more as a result.
Top: An abandoned house on MLK, at the south edge of the
Ville. January 2003.
Center / Bottom: Destruction by neglect. This combined house and store, on the 4500 block of MLK, does not appear to have burned at any point in its deterioration. In the center image, the scars of trim below the cornice remain after the decoration itself has been removed. These photos are from January 2002; when I returned a year later the building was still standing, and in exactly the same condition.
