Built St. Louis
This house, on Clara just north of Page, was one of the first I photographed in December 1998. At the time I found it peculiar for the damaged gutter that was just hanging there, half-on, half-off. What I didn't notice was the bulge at the base of the brick side wall. Three years later (January 2002), the gutter hadn't moved an inch. But water infiltration -- signaled by the bulging wall -- had collapsed an entire quarter of the house. The house was demolished later that year. |
