25th Street offers a wealth of styles and conditions. The 4100 block, north of Newhouse, has a
group of abandoned houses that stands in majestic decay.
Stunningly, this very same group is pictured on page 15 of the 1989 edition of
A Guide To the Architecture of St. Louis by George McCue and Frank Peters. As photographed then, the houses
are in sterling condition; indeed,
the caption describes them as "exemplifying quality in construction and pride in maintenance." Fifteen years later,
they instead exemplify an utter lack of maintenance.
This curious addition has conjoined two of the houses. October 2002.
