The North Side: Fountain Park

The handsome brick facades were the final remains of the area's heyday. Some were been sparsely decorated with images of musical instruments. These photographs from August 2001 show them all in advanced states of decay.

After years of abandonment, the final toll sounded for Gaslight Square in the fall of 2003. The last remaining buildings were demolished, clearing the land for new residential development.

The pink-painted building at upper left was once known as the Crystal Palace, one of the Square's most famous venues. The bottom right doorway was at 4312 Olive.
