Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church
South Kingshighway

Stained Glass: Emil Frei Stained Glass Co.
Designer:

Light tones of gold, orange and yellow set the mood. The Frei company executed distinctly Modernist windows inside this traditionally-styled church, which was ten years old when the interior was finished in 1938.

The subject matter for the windows is drawn from Biblical quotations and other sources, including quotes from Popes Leo XIII and Pius XI. The cogs and gears that frame some of the windows' illustrations, together with the content of some of the quotes, show the same interest in workers rights and social justice apparent in the contemporaneous windows at St. Mark's Episcopal.
